the Cross of Justice

On the southside of the square "Bleech" in Larochette, between three beeches, stands the Cross of Justice, or “Franchise Cross”. For ages, justice was spoken here, in the name of the Lords of the Castle of Feels, whose arms are to be seen on the cross.

Originally, it was a stone boulder, later a monumental base with a column surmounted by a cross. This was the place of official proclamations and judgments, where was read in public what the State Bulletin publishes nowadays. Of course, those who exercise the power used it, first the lord of Fels, later the people, and thus these monuments are often regarded as a symbol of freedom (franchise).

Further, this place was the target of the yearly procession to the honour of Donatius, saint patron of the church of Larochette.
